Art Workshops are a great family activity for a Winter trip to Jerusalem. All of the workshops we recommend are run by artists who have opened up their studios to tourists. Many of the workshops have an Israeli or Judaic theme, making them unique experiences.
These activities should be reserved in advance.
Arts & Crafts
Glass Sculpting – Learn about the art of Glass Blowing and Flame Working from Yael, a Bezalel graduate. Yael gives you an introduction to the science and art of the craft and then gives you a hands on experience to create your own pieces of art.
Salves of Jerusalem – Discover the ancient art of skin and body care through herbs, oils, and biblical ingredients in this hands-on workshop held in a warm Jerusalem home. Make your own handcrafted salve and herbal infusion to take home.
Gita Stern Painting Workshops & Classes – a creative painting workshop using traditional or unique methods like string-pulling and guided modern art. For women and children (age 7+).
Studio Kliche – Take a Sun Printing or Candle Making workshop with Liana, a Bezalel graduate, in her studio at the beautiful Jerusalem House of Quality. Located just opposite the Har Zion Hotel.
Salome Stones – Hands-on workshops at House of Quality, focusing on Jewelry Creation using natural stones from the Land of Israel or a Natural Watercolor Workshop where you create pigments from local minerals. Perfect for ages 8+.
Rave Mosaics – Using broken glass you will be guided by Roochie to create your own unique piece of art. After your workshop, don’t miss popping into the great artist studios along the Artist’s Colony St. (Hutzot Hayotzer)
Kiyor Ceramics – Unique ceramic workshops led by Chaya Esther inspired by the Holy Land. Located just opposite the entrance to the Machane Yehuda Market.
Hadara Ceramics – Create your own clay art in a fun, hands-on ceramics workshop on Emek Refaim Street. Learn hand-building and decorating techniques with stencils and stamps. Perfect for all ages and a great multi-generational activity. Ask about the new Plaster Tablet Workshop.
Jerusalem Custom Photography – Discover the beauty of Jerusalem through your camera’s lens with Nili Auerbach. She’s a photographer and educator with over 20 years experience and is passionate about sharing her love for photography with people of all ages. It can be combined with a private photoshoot at an additional cost, making it a truly memorable experience.
Workshops Outside Jerusalem
Yvel – The International luxury jewelry brand now offers Pearl Stringing workshops at it’s Design Center in Motza. It’s a wonderful hands-on experience and add-on to their tour, and is available in English or Hebrew.
Tour Adumim – Experience some lovely creative workshops with Shelley Brinn of Tour Adumim, such as WooDiy, a hands-on woodworking workshop in the Adumim Region, where you build beautiful projects from start to finish. The group project can be donated in memory of a fallen IDF soldier, adding a powerful and heartfelt layer to your Israel experience. Or a handmade soap workshop, using only natural ingredients.
Resin Art Workshops at the Nicole Friedman Studio – Nurture your creative side at Nicole Friedman Studio in Beit Shemesh! Come experience first-hand what the resin art hype is all about. With private and group workshops available, participants create color-bursting useable art
Uri Kalfa – Mezuzah workshop – More than just a workshop, Uri will teach you about the mitzva of Mezuzah as you create your own mezuzah case. Studio is located in Maale Adumim.
Sofer Tour – Take a hands-on tour for families and groups with Moshe Braun, internationally renowned artist and sofer STaM. as you learn all about the fascinating world of Safrut (scribal arts). Moshe will treat you to in-depth explanations and demonstrations on how Torah Scrolls, Tefillin, Mezzuzot and Megillot are created. Moshe has a studio in Jerusalem and one in Ramat Beit Shemesh.
Galita Chocolate Making – Learn to decorate chocolate or create your own pralines. Each person will find something to make and there is lots of yummy chocolate tasting along the way! (Mehadrin). This is a great activity for a family with kids of all ages. Located on Kibbutz Tzuba in the Jerusalem Hills.
The Workshop Gush Etzion – Take an incredible woodworking workshop and walk away with handmade pieces of Judaica. Jeremy and Mandy Broder will teach you how to take wood from its’ raw form and create it into a finished piece. Located in the Gush.
Creative Crafts – Come and visit Dana at the Creative Crafts Studio in Gush Etzion where you can choose from a variety of projects. We recommend their Family Projects. Ask about special option for evening workshops as well.
Build A Bed – This workshop by Just One Chesed, where fun meets purpose! Perfect for families, tour groups, or office team days, this hands-on experience in Gush Etzion, encourages you to work together, building sturdy bed frames that will comfort families in need across Israel. Located in Efrat.
Build A Rest Area – Just One Chesed also offers an inspiring and hands-on experience where participants will sponsor and help build a brand-new rest area on an army base. A space that gives soldiers a place to relax, recharge, and know they are appreciated. Located in Efrat.
Pizza Making for Soldiers – This is your chance to roll up your sleeves, craft delicious pizzas from scratch, and package them up with love. The best part? You’ll personally deliver these fresh, hot meals to Israel’s incredible Chayalim! Located in Efrat.
The IDF Birthday Project – A meaningful creative workshop where families can make special, heartfelt gifts (mugs, cups, birthday packages, care packages) for IDF reserve duty soldiers and their families. All profits are used to support soldiers and milluim families. Located in Efrat.
The Kindness Booth Experience – A unique hands-on experience where you become the giver. Hosted by Just One Chesed, this interactive booth invites participants of all ages to step out of their comfort zone and spread kindness to complete strangers.
