Israel Independence Day – Yom Haatzmaut

The State of Israel goes from a somber Yom Hazikaron Remembrance Day straight into celebrating Independence Day. It’s a very special time to be in Jerusalem and there are many events going on.

The Independence Day Flyover

The highlight of Independence Day is the incredible flyover show performed by the Israeli Air Force. There is a new app that tells you minute by minute what the times will be by city as well as information about the airplanes flying overhead.

Prayer & Singing Events

  • OU Israel Community Prayer & Song Event at Liberty Bell Park
  • Yom Haatzmaut Prayer and dancing at the Western Wall (Kotel)
  • Atzmauta, annual Yom Haatzmaut prayer event that takes place in Teddy Park.
  • Yom Haatzmaut at First Station, a celebration and brotherhood, combining Jewish tradition & contemporary Israeli culture, in partnership with Kol Haneshama & Ginot Ha’Ir.
  • The Begin Center’s musical tour is full of poetry and praise for the 75 years since the establishment of the State of Israel, with a focus on the story of Jerusalem.
  • There will be community parties and concerts

Museum Events

In honor of Israel’s 75th anniversary, 75 National Heritage sites are opening their doors FREE of charge.

Many museums they all have special programming and activities for the holiday.

  • Israel Museum – Enjoy the annual Israeli folklore dance show and see the Israeli Air Force flyover from the vantage point of the museum gardens!
  • Bible Lands Museum – Guided tours of the museum galleries and annual Yom Haatzmaut sing-a-long with the legendary Sarale Sharon.
  • Science Museum – celebrate Israel’s birthday at the new experiential fabric complex.
  • Begin Museum – Enjoy a sound and light show as you walk through the museum learning about Menachem Begin and the State of Israel.
  • Tower of David – Around the ancient citadel the Tower of David will present 6 “photos” that depict formative scenes in the history of the State of Israel throughout its 75 years. Actors will recreate the moment and breathe life into the image.
  • Ammunition Hill – Climb on tanks, tour the battle site, see heritage movies, try on battle equipment and meet soldiers from the Golani brigade.
  • Museum of Italian Jewish Art – Guided tours and special crafts workshops for all the family.
  • Old Yishuv Court – Guided tours, live theater and interactive game for the whole Family.

Ceremonies

Har Herzl Ceremony  – for ticket holders only. This event is broadcast on tv on Wednesday Night at 7:45pm.
