Spring Tours with Nachliel “The Museum Guy”

Throughout May Nachliel Selavan will be at the Israel Museum and the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem.  Affectionately known as The Museum Guy, Nachliel will be on hand guiding public and private tours of some of the best-loved exhibitions with his own unique and engaging style.

Highlights include:

Shavuot Part 1 – Freedom and the Language of the Land in the Israel Museum
Cheesecake, Torah and harvest festivals? What’s going on with all of these Jewish holidays?
Did you know that Shavuot is connected to the Bezalel Art school and Yom Ha’Atzma’ut? Let’s clean up this mess and make the connections.

The first tour explores the holiday-and-festivity-rich time of year – which sees many expressions of redemption and independence – from the Exodus to the battles of Modern Israel: Memorial Day, Independence Day and Yom Yerushalayim, and finally – Bikkurim day.

Shavuot Part 2 – Freedom and Fire: Fight for the Land in the Israel Museum
The second part deals with the counting of the Omer (Sefirat ha-Omer) and Lag ba-Omer’s  most important characters: Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Shimon b. Yohai and Shimon b. Kokhba (ben Kosiba). We will explore how these dramatis personae impacted two millennia of Jewish attitudes towards the exile, and how they reshaped the image of Jewish glory and Zionism.

The Four Kingdoms Tour in the Bible Lands Museum
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had a dream – a vision of the kingdoms that would succeed and surpass Babylon in world domination. Babylon was conquered by the Persians, the Persians by the Greeks, and the Greeks by the Romans. These Four Kingdoms shaped the world as we know it.

Nachliel updates his list of tours every few days. Keep track of his tours here.
