A tour of the Citadel: Following in the footsteps of the Hasmoneans and the Hanukkah story

The remains of the central Hasmonean fortifications in Jerusalem are at in the Tower of David Citadel. On the tour you’ll see the towers and walls built by the Hasmoneans in the square of the citadel and the pit of catapults with which the Greeks fought.   Tour the new museum galleries following the menorah and the story of Hanukkah, and end with a view of the old city.

Cache in the Museum: A navigation game and missions around the Citadel

A family game of navigation and missions around the Citadel. Each family will receive a kit with tasks and puzzles, navigate around the citadel, in the galleries and in the moat, until reaching the treasure: the Hanukkah treasure. There will also be a costume stand and a craft workshops throughout the day.

Lantern Tours

Add light in the citadel with a Hanukkah lantern tour. Using lanterns to light your path, you’ll walk on the walls and discover the secrets of the ancient citadel following the Hanukkah story.  Includes quiz and games, communal candle lighting and donuts.

Menorah tours

Experiential tours for families in the festive atmosphere of Hanukkah, among Hanukkiyot, tales of heroism, miracles and wonders.

Nachlaot – A tour of the courtyards and alleys of the Nachlaot neighborhood in the heart of the city. Guides will explain the different Hanukkah customs; the foods, the songs and the special Hanukkiyot. The tour includes hospitality in someone’s home and a donut decorating workshop.

Jewish Quarter – A tour of the new galleries at the Tower of David, followed by a wander through the alleys and courtyards of the Jewish quarter, guided by the lights of the menorahs in the windows and doorways. Learn about the history and customs of the holiday through a series of riddles and games.  The tour ends with a spectacular view of the Kotel.

Zichron Moshe –  A tour of the Moshe Memorial neighborhood known as the Mishchilim neighborhood of Jerusalem, and a walk through the streets lit up with the menorah lights. Learn all about Hanukkah in the tradition of Israel and the renewed Zionist concept, and learn about the innovations of the words of Zionism in Hanukkah near the house of Eliezer Ben Yehuda.
