We’ll visit the ancient synagogue at Umm el-Umdan and a beautiful lookout in Ben Shemen Forest, exploring the world of the Maccabees through history, nature, stories, and drama.
Along the way, you’ll meet members of the Hasmonean family, who will bring the dramatic story of Hanukkah to life. We’ll discover local plants, hear fascinating stories from Greek culture and Jewish Midrash, and explore the clash of ideas and cultures behind the holiday we still celebrate today. The walking is easy and relatively short, making this a great experience for families, though the trail is not stroller-friendly.

Along the way, we’ll discover and taste edible wild plants, and hear stories and wisdom from the trees and flowers — all brought to life in a fun, theatrical way. This isn’t just another nature walk. It’s a chance for children and adults alike to experience nature and the land of Israel in a new, refreshing, and eye-opening way.
