His mission took a deeply personal turn on October 7, 2023, when both of his sons fought heroically at the Nachal Oz base:
His eldest, Captain Yonatan Perez helped retake the base, saving fellow soldiers before being wounded – just ten days before his wedding. He has since married and returned to active duty.
His younger son, Captain Daniel Perez z”l was taken hostage after hours of courageous fighting. He was declared deceased after 163 days in captivity. His body remains in Gaza, awaiting a dignified burial.
