Yom Haatzmaut at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo & Israel Aquarium

In honor of Independence Day, more happy Israeli news at the zoo!

Last month, in collaboration with the Nature and Parks Authority, 18 Persian donkeys were released into the wild to a new release site in the Jerusalem Mountains from the breeding nucleus at the Biblical Zoo. The Herbivore Department team accompanied the entire process and the beautiful donkeys are being broadcast so that we can continue to follow them in the wild. In addition to the transmitters, field cameras were placed in the release area to help us monitor the condition of the donkeys and the variety of animals in the area.

The most Israeli Fish at the Israel Aquarium!

Israel is home to a variety of animals, some of which can only be found here (endemic species). Among these animals is a small freshwater fish called the Binon Dor. The Binon Dor can only be found in the Ein Mekel Nature Reserve in the Valley of Springs. The spring in the Ein Mekel Nature Reserve is in danger of drying up, and as a result, the Binon Dor may disappear from nature completely.
