Treasures of the Negev
Get a vulture eye’s view of the spectacular Zin Canyon on this trip to the Negev Desert. Visit Ben Gurion’s Grave at Sde Boker and search for vultures and other birds of prey who live in the Zin Canyon. After a visit at the new visitor center of the Ramat HaNegev Birding Center, we will down into Ein Avdat Canyon to get some closer views of the majestic Griffon Vultures and learn about the conservations projects to protect these endangered birds. After a picnic lunch, we will visit the home of David Ben Gurion in Kibbutz Sde Boker and explore his deep connections with the area. Bus transportation provided from Jerusalem with stops at Latrun and Beer Sheva. No experience is necessary! Moderate walking, with some uneven ground. Around 3-4 km. REGISTER
English Bird Club: The Swifts of Tel Aviv
Did you know that the Common Swift is the official bird of Tel Aviv? The swifts migrate to Israel in the early spring and nests in the roofs of our cities. In the late afternoon, hundreds of swifts gather to feed before dark and their aerial acrobatics is a sight to see. Join the Bird Club in downtown Tel Aviv to experience this first hand before the nesting season is over and the birds head back south for the winter. No experience is necessary! Owls of the Judean Plains
Early summer is a great time to search for owls and we will head out to the Judean Plains to search for Long-eared owls, Barn owls and maybe other nocturnal birds and mammals. This trip is by private car. Easy walking. Appropriate for age 9 and up. REGISTER
English Bird Club – Night walk in the Yarkon Park
Experience the city’s wildlife after dark. As the city cools and the stars come out, so do the nocturnal animals – bats, jackals, owls and more. Join us as we explore the park and learn how the animals survive the night. No experience is necessary! Easy walking 2 – 3 km. REGISTER
Feathers and Fur – an nature walk at the Gazelle Valley Park
Summer is settling in and the spring migration is over. There are many young birds in the park learning to hunt for food and fly. We will search for these resident birds along with interesting insects and butterflies and of course, we will search for the gazelles who live in the Park. For all ages, no experience needed. About 1 km easy walking on good paths. In English. Age 6 and up. REGISTER
English Bird Club – Visit to the National Natural History Collections at the Hebrew University
Why do universities keep a collection of fossils, skins, bones and other botanical and zoological specimens? We will visit several collections at the Hebrew University and learn how the collection helps scientists to answer a wide variety of questions. No experience is necessary! Guiding in English! Appropriate for age 9 and up. REGISTER
English bird club – Sunset walk along the Yarkon River
Beat the heat with this sunset tour along the Yarkon River in Tel Aviv. Search for birds coming in to roost for the night, bats heading out to search for food, jackals and other animals, and watch as night descends on the busy city. No experience is necessary! Easy walk along paved paths 1 – 2 km. Appropriate for age 9 and up. REGISTER
