A three-part mini series for children of short visit to the library’s exhibitions.
Discuss the stories, paintings and secrets that are hidden in them ‘at eye level’, and turn the inspiration into your own original creation in a diverse art workshop – through color, material and imagination.
Point of View: Tour of the “Into the Inner Libraries” Exhibition and Photography Workshop – January 29
What does a book’s journey from the dark basement of the library to the reading room look like? Meet Hadassah Goldweicht, who will take you through her her video art exhibition, which reveals the beating, hidden heart of the National Library. (Recommended for 9-12 year olds).
Hadassah Goldweicht is a multidisciplinary artist. Her works deal with language, and mechanisms such as pain and healing, and include works in the public space in collaboration with dozens and hundreds of employees of public institutions and communities in Israel and around the world. Her exhibition “To the Inner Libraries” is currently on display at the National Library.
Letters and Flowers: Tour of the “There Are Flowers Between the Pages of the National Library” exhibition and poster workshop – February 19
How does a flower become a message, and how do words manage to “speak” without a sound? Take a tour of an exhibition dedicated to flowers in Israeli culture, and discuss historical posters for nature conservation that have been created here over the years. After the tour, there will be a hands-on workshop in the collage technique with artist Leah Uchitel. (Recommended for 8-11 year olds)
Leah Uchital is a multidisciplinary artist who works in the space between the personal and the communal. Her work ranges from painting, photography and collage and focuses on personal memory, symbols and archetypes, and the relationships between story, image and body. She leads community and multigenerational art in Jerusalem, exhibits in galleries across the country and is a member of the artists’ collective of the “Tarbut” movement.
A surprise letter: Secrets from the archives table and a Pop-Up Workshop – March 12
How can you convey feelings and thoughts to a loved one who is far away? We will take a tour of personal and moving letters from the library’s collections, and discuss the ways in which people throughout history have kept in touch and sent greetings from afar. Together with artist Jenny Mailikhov, we will discover how paper and paint can fold wishes and longings into them, and how a simple illustration can be transformed into a surprising and lively three-dimensional world. Followed by a hands on workshop, making pop-up cards. (Recommended for 7-11 year olds)
Jenny Mylikhov is a children’s book illustrator who creates magical worlds and tells stories.
