The “What’s Your Favorite Part” Writing Group – Fourth to Sixth Grade

The school year is beginning! Which means it’s the perfect time to tell the story only you can tell. And you don’t have to do it by yourself. Over the course of a few months, you and your fellow writing club members will unearth your stories, get to know your characters and settings, and use structure to tell your stories in the most powerful way possible. And along the way, we’ll be asking each other one important question about our writing “What’s your favorite part?” Focusing on your strengths will make your stories shine! You’ll end up with a short story you’ll be proud to share with your new writing community, your friends and family, and the world.

Middle Grade Book Club – Third & Fourth Grade

Put on your chef’s hat and join us in a cozy virtual kitchen and warm up with some rugelah. This winter, we’ll be reading “The 150,000 Rugelach” by Allison and Wayne Marks. We’ll get to know Jack and Jillian, and do some writing and art based on the book. And of course, we’ll have plenty of discussions about the book. As for the rugelach, you’ll have to bake your own. But we’ll have plenty of fun!

Ask Mel about her in-person chugim and private tutoring options in self-defense, English / literacy and STEM too.

A Bit About Mel

With a master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Media from Columbia University Teachers College and teaching cerification from California, Melissa has over twenty years of experience in the field of education.

Melissa’s interest in technology and literacy grew out of her experience teaching Pre-School and first grade for several years. After receiving her master’s degree, Melissa worked as an educational consultant / teacher trainer, robotics and Scratch teacher, and as the technology teacher at a Hebrew day school in Brooklyn (grades Kindergarten – eighth).

She can’t decide which part of her career she loves best – watching children develop a passion for reading, or seeing the look on children’s faces when they discover that a line of code they’ve written makes things happen.

Since making Aliyah in 2012, Melissa has coached First LEGO League (FLL) and has taught after school coding classes in various schools and summer camps in Jerusalem.
