Ein Yael Tour & Workshops

Ein Yael is an idyllic mix of nature and history. The living museum is located outdoors next to the Biblical Zoo and at the end of the Park Hamesilla.

As you enter the nature reserve you can see the remains of an ancient Roman Villa, a natural spring, ancient terraces used for agriculture and a reconstructed Roman street with shops and workshops.

Tour + Workshops – 3 hrs. – Reservations must be made a few days in advance

You can arrange your own private tour of the museum followed by 2 workshops of your choice. Discover this unique museum in Jerusalem.

Workshops can take place rain or shine. This is a great Friday activity for families looking to do something special in Jerusalem. Let Ein Yael know if you are coming with young kids, school age or teens and they will create the right workshop for you.

Tour:

Visit the ancient Roman Villa, see the natural spring and how it was used for agriculture, learn about terraces, ancient crafts and visit a reconstructed ancient Roman street.

Workshops: Choose 2 workshops

Pottery Introduces different clay vessels which were used in ancient times. Describes how clay is extracted from the soil. Pottery is created on a potter’s wheel using different techniques.

Frescoes Paint on moist plaster using mineral pigments and natural colors just as the Romans did many years ago.

Mosaics Learn how to cut stones with a hammer and chisel, design an image and set the stones on cement to create the mosaic piece.

Weaving  Introduces all stages of weaving, from wool preparation, cleaning, twining and coloring. Weaving rugs using different techniques with various types of loom.

Pita Bread Baking  Use flour, water, olive oil and spices. Mix, knead and bake pita bread on a bonfire.

Musical Instruments Learn about ancient musical instruments and the musicians who played them. Make flutes from branches of the “Bamboo” tree.

Natural Building Introduces different ancient building methods made from natural materials, in particularly mud.

Weaving Baskets Baskets are the most ancient form of carrier. Experience weaving baskets from reeds and learn about other plants that can be used for weaving.

Spices Workshop
Learn about olive oil and its various uses in ancient times as an herb and perfume . Each participant will prepare a vial of perfume from local plants.

Gardening Workshop
We will learn about the importance of recycling and the plants that grow in Israel, their uses and the differences between them. Each participant will prepare a personal sapling that he/she will take home and learn how to take care of.

Special Workshop with Artists

Bow & Arrow Workshop (660 NIS)
Learn about different bows and arrows and when they were used in battle. Learn to shoot a bow and arrow using different techniques from around the world.

Ceramic Art Workshop (660 NIS)
Learn to make ceramic dishes using a professional potter’s wheel. This workshop is led by a ceramic artist. Each participant will receive personal guidance and create a piece of pottery art.

There is a great new park located just outside Ein Yael on the Park Hamesilla. There are picnic benches, a parking lot and lots of great climbing structures there. There is also a path with entrance to the zoo.
