Pre-Sukkot Camps

This year for the first time schools will be closed for the three days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot. Looking for some great pre-sukkot kaytanot? Here are our recommendations.

Challenge Camp: Learn to rappel (snapple), rock climb, master a ropes course, ride a zipline (omega) and swing. Led by experienced guides. Past campers have told us these the days they spent in the camp this summer were the best days of their lives. The camp takes place in Gei Ben Hinom (Outside the Old City) and in Talbieh at Hurshat Hayareach. Daily participation is available. Reservations required in advance.

All Star Israel Sports Camp: This popular camp at the Kraft stadium will be offering a special 3 day sports camp. This is a great option for English speakers, tourists and locals. Details will be available shortly.

Bible Lands Museum Camp: Solve puzzles and enjoy workshops with museum guides.

Museums

Ein_YaelBotanical Gardens Fairy Tale Festival: Come to the gardens to hear stories and fairytales from around the world. Sword workshops, rythm dancing, rope climbing, acrobatics and more. Live childrens show on Chol Hamoed.

Ein Yael: Take a walk down an ancient Roman street and meet people who can teach you to create mosaics, bake pita, weave baskets and more. There will be an archery competition and Psik Theater for kids. This is a wonderful living museum that is only open during the week on holidays and in the summer. It is situated in the beautiful hills across the road from the zoo and has plenty of shady areas. Click here for a 10% off coupon.

Israel Museum: Visit the newly renovated Israel Museum. The Youth Wing has a special schedule of events for kids including a recycling workshop, an interactive gallery tour and a color workshop. Take a taxi because the parking is impossible and make sure to order tickets from us in advance. Children are free on Sukkot. Entrance is free for kids on Oct 11 and Oct 13-20. Free entrance for all on Oct 19.

Museum of the Underground Prisoner: Fun In Jerusalem and the Museum present an English scavenger hunt that takes you through the museum. Perfect for kids ages 7+. There will also be art workshops and an interactive game and tour of the museum.

Tower of David: Water Festival: Arts, Crafts, games and a live show called "Private Collection"

Museum of Islamic Art: Daily art workshops (the best in town) and a live childrens show each day at 12pm. Check the calendar for details.

Sports:

Challenge Tours: Arrange for Yaakov to take you and your kids (ages4+) rappelling in the Valley Ben Hinom outside the Old City Walls, or jeeping in the Judean desert or the Gush Etzion area.

City Events

Jerusalem March: Join the annual march through Jerusalem. Choose a path from Ammunition Hill or the Tayelet and march through the center of town. Kids activities will be going on all day at Gan Sacher.

Birkat Cohanim: Join thousands of people at the Western Wall for the special blessing from the Cohanim. Plan to walk there because the Old City will be closed to cars. Sunday of Chol Hamoed.

Ein Hemed Music Festival: Enjoy different genres of music in a  beautiful National Park just outside Jerusalem.

Other Ideas

Family Photos: Take this time to bring your family together for some beautiful family photos in Jerusalem. If you are here on vacation with family from around the world then this is a great opportunity to hire a photographer to take you into the Old City or Yemin Moshe for some memorable family portraits. Fun In Jerusalem highly recommends Eugene who is not only a photographer but a magician who finds ways to entertain the kids and get them to smile at just the right moment.

Arba Minim Delivered to your Hotel: Are you looking for a place to buy your lulav or etrog? Cut the hassle out of the purchase and arrange to have them delivered to your hotel or apartment. Ask for Sruli and let him know you heard about him on Fun In Jerusalem.

Concerts

Rok Ami: Annual Jewish Rock Concert at the ICCY on Emek Refaim. Moshav Band, Hamakor and Soul Farm.

Outside Jerusalem

Mini Israel: See all of Israel in one day...kid sized. There will be guided tours and a live kids show each day.

Neot Kedumim: See an exhibit of Sukkot from the time of the Mishna and enjoy a special celebration of the famous Israeli children's writer Leah Goldberg. There will be children's theater and activities.
