Yemin Moshe: The Windmill
Yemin Moshe: The Windmill
Although there is no official museum or tour of Yemin Moshe, this magical neighborhood is a must see attraction in Jerusalem.
The Windmill: “Tachanat Haruach” in Hebrew. The Windmill was built to entice Jews to move out of the Old City and provide the new neighborhood with a source income, but it never became operative. The Windmill is one of the most well known icons found in pictures and artist renderings of the Jerusalem skyline.
Yemin Moshe Neighborhood:This was the first neighborhood built outside the Old City Walls in 1891 by Moses Montefiore. It was built on the hill facing the Old City in such a way that each and every house has a view of the Old City. Its’ beautiful cobble stone streets are magical.
The View: From the Windmill you can see a beautiful view of the Old City walls and the Tower of David. Its a great spot for a family photo.
Children’s Activities: This is a great place to take children who enjoy drawing. Bring some colored pencils and a pad of paper and let them draw their versions of the Old City Walls or the Windmill. There are some small parks inside Yemin Moshe that have beautiful views or the area in front of the Windmill is also a good drawing spot. Please send us copies ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) of your kids drawings and we would love to post them here.
