Jerusalem Archaeological Park - Davidson Center

Temple Mount Excavations, Dung Gate 02-627-7550

This beautiful museum which combines modern architecture and ancient ruins can be found at the exit of the Western Wall just before the Dung Gate. Here you will learn about ancient Jerusalem in the time of the 2nd Temple. The museum contains indoor (and well airconditioned) exhibits of ancient findings including oil lamps, pottery and ancient coins. For self guided tours there are signs in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The indoor section of the Museum is stroller & wheelchair accessible. You can also see a choice of two movies ” The History of Archaeological Research” or “The Story of the Pilgrim”.

One of the highlights of this modern facility is a real-time virtual reality reconstruction of the HerodianTemple Mount as it stood prior to its destruction by Roman troops in the year 70 CE. When you step outside into the archaeological park you will find remains of arches, Jerusalem’s main shopping street, ritual baths and more. Each stone tells a story of Jerusalem during a different period of rule. Young children would need to be carefully watched in this section of the museum as there are lots of rocks and uneven paths and therefore it is not stroller accessible.

There is no parking near the museum unless you are lucky enough to find a spot outside the Dung Gate.
